Schedule Europe Trip for Best Seasons, Values
by Glynnis Farrow

A trip to Europe is the vacation of a lifetime. There are
unlimited attractions and sights to see across the
continent. Weather and cost are the biggest factors in
determining the best times to travel.

The time prior to and following the high summer season are
ideal for travel, both for fine weather and cheaper prices.
In the winter, mild weather in the southern countries means
an enjoyable holiday experience.

If you favor good weather, the winter is not recommended
for seeing northern Europe. From December through
February, cold, wet and gray weather is typical and days
are short for actitivites.

On the up side, prices are the cheapest for winter travel.
If your schedule demands a winter vacation, choose southern
European destinations, such as Italy or Greece.

Winter travel also offers other benefits. New Year's Eve
and winter festivals are exciting events throughtout
Europe. Paris and other large cities decorate beautifully
for the Christmas holidays.

Another benefit is there aren't many tourists in these
months. You will get to see more of authentic European
life than you would in the summer season.

In the early spring, most of Europe is still wet and
chilly, especially in the northern countries. The streets
are uncrowded and the weather gradually becomes more
tolerable. Although it is still too cold for swimming and
other water based activities, the weather is warm enough
for outdoor tours and sight seeing. The prices are
reasonable for airfare and hotels, making this a good time
for budget conscious travelers. Once summer hits, most
countries and major tourist areas become crowded.

Nice weather and tolerable crowding are found in May and
June, when festivals and cultural activities abound. Deals
on flights and lodging are also still available.
Attractions, tours and restaurants will have space for you.

When summer arrives and schools let out, Europe becomes
super busy. Lodging fills up and almost everything becomes
more expensive with the increased demand. Long lines are
typical at the popular tourist sites.

If you must travel in the summer, visit the northern
countries. These areas are less crowded and the weather is
beautiful. The Edinburgh festival in Scotland goes on for
most of the month of August.
