Plan Ahead for Travel to Europe
by Walt Bargener

well-planned trips are more likely to go as they should.
Make your trip to Europe more fun by anticipating any
challenges that may arise. Here are some points to
consider:

1. Plan well in advance. Coordinate with your travel agent
or airline a few months before you are scheduled to travel
to book your seats and avail yourself of any special
discounts. Everybody wants to get the best deal so don't
delay bookings until the last minute and then realize that
flights are full and prices sky-high. Look for promotions
and frequent flier discounts to save money.

2. Get necessary documents ready. Make sure your passport
is current. Find out if any countries on your itinerary
require a visa for entry. For those that do, request visas
well in advance of the trip to avoid last-minute delays.
Bring copies of your birth certificate, immunization
records, and driver's license. They aren't required in
most European countries, but they will help to identify
you if your wallet or passport are lost or stolen.

3. Get a check-up done. Make sure you have no health
problem that could jeopardize your trip. Carry whatever
medications you may require for the entire trip, as it can
be very difficult to get prescription medicines abroad.
Your doctor can brief you on whatever immunizations and
medications you may need as well as inform you of any health
alerts that he is aware of anywhere in Europe.

4. Get as much information as you can about sites and
excursions. check on dates and times of availability and
plan around those for "must see" and "must do" items.
Do your homework regarding currency exchange, travel
directions, language requirements, and anything else that
you can think of to insure a smoothly executed trip.

Visiting Europe is a wonderful way to explore the Old
World. Take a few precautionary steps to maximize your
enjoyment while limiting possible problems. More time
invested in planning up front will result in more time
doing exactly what you want while there!
